The synopsis for the final half of “Arrested Development” Season 5 is short, sweet, and to the point: “One Murder. No Masterminds.”
And honestly, at this point, why would Netflix even bother with a fully detailed synopsis? As a fan, if you’re not aware of what to expect with new “Arrested Development” episodes, no plot description is going to help. The series features the continuing adventures of the Bluth family, who are probably some of the worst people on the face of the planet. Sure, they’re funny as hell (for the most part, your mileage may vary in these later seasons), but these are not people you’d probably want to hang out with in real life.
But then again, that’s what makes their adventures so interesting. Seeing Gob continue to make a full of himself, Buster acting as strange as ever, and Tobias doing…well, whatever Tobias does is exactly why you watch. The plot is almost secondary and superfluous.
That being said, there is a bittersweet feeling about Part 2 of Season 5. You see, with all the hype surrounding “Arrested Development” getting back to the basics for Season 5, there was a lot of anticipation to see if the gang still “had it.” Unfortunately, the first half of Season 5 was met with mixed reception and it’s very likely that, barring some major development, this is probably the end of the road for one of the most celebrated comedies of the modern era.
Sadly, the series that just wouldn’t die is likely to end on March 15, when the final batch of episodes hits Netflix. So, enjoy the Bluths while you have them. This just might be the end of the road for the crazy family. But hey, there’s always money in the banana stand, right?
