As seen in the first trailer for the series, “Avenue 5” takes place in the future when tourists hop on space ships for vacations. So, when things begin to mess up on the ship’s voyage, the people start to get a little crazy.

The series stars Hugh Laurie, Josh Gad, Zach Woods, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Rebecca Front, Lenora Crichlow, Suzy Nakamura, and Ethan Phillips. As mentioned, “Avenue 5” comes from the mind of Iannucci, who is probably best known for the Emmy Award-winning series “Veep,” as well as various films such as “The Death of Stalin” and most recently, “The Personal History of David Copperfield.”

“Avenue 5” is expected to premiere on HBO in January 2020.

Here’s the synopsis:

Avenue 5 is a space tourism comedy set 40 years in the future when the solar system is everyone’s oyster. Hugh Laurie will star as the Captain, and with him in charge, nothing can go wrong.
