It’s been a couple of years since Baz Luhrmann released his most recent film, “Elvis.” That film would go on to be nominated for eight Oscars and it earned a nice sum at the box office. Needless to say, Warner Bros. is eagerly awaiting what the filmmaker has up his sleeve next. And now we know what it is.

According to Deadline, Baz Luhrmann’s next film is something he’s calling “Jehanne d’Arc,” a biopic of the iconic Joan of Arc. The film is currently in pre-production and casting has begun to find the actor who will play the teen girl in the film.
For those unfamiliar with the story of Joan of Arc, the teenage girl thought she was told by God to go into battle during the Hundred Years War. Eventually, she took a leadership position in the army and became an icon who shattered gender roles. Now, her memory is beloved by the French people and she went on to become a patron saint.
Again, there’s not too much else we know about the film. You have to imagine it will be a beautifully filmed project, as Luhrmann is known to create aesthetically pleasing features. Other than “Elvis,” the filmmaker is probably best known for films such as “Moulin Rouge,” “Romeo + Juliet,” and “The Great Gatsby.”
While there’s no production start date that is publicly known yet, with casting happening now, you have to assume he will begin production sometime in 2025.
