Yahoo Movies has released a “rehearsal montage” of Rob Marshall’s musical, “Nine,” which is basically a mini-featured with rehearsal footage interspliced with quick clips from the film, but it does whet our appetite for the full feature-film which is sizable.
An adaptation of a Broadway musical inspired by Fellini’s “8 1/2,” the all-star film features Daniel Day-Lewis as a film director haunted by the women in his life — Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Fergie, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, and Sophia Loren — ranging from mistress, to wife, to muse, to deceased mother. To bait Oscar just a tiny bit more, the film is the last one scripted by deceased and beloved Hollywood filmmaker/producer Anthony Minghella (who co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Tolkin). “Nine” hits theaters in limited release on December 18 in New York and Los Angeles and will then go wide on December 25.
That recent Vogue cover shoot also has some behind-the-scene candid video of their photospread if you’re interested and in it Kate Hudson reveals that in the movie she plays a Vogue journalist who is obsessed with DDL’s protagonist character.
A possible version of a Japanese poster has popped up online as well. In a recent interview about his method acting, Daniel Day-Lewis said, “I suppose. I suppose it’s a very highly developed form of denial, but some part of me completely denies that I’m a performer,” which is a great kind of immersion. Does he try and just believe he is that person?
Most anticipated film of the year for what’s left of 2009? We should say so (cause really, what’s left?)
