The cast of Rob Marshall’s “Nine,” is pretty fantastic. Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman, and Judi Dench.
Oh yeah, and this guy named Daniel Day-Lewis who has taken over for the departed Javier Bardem, according to Variety (though this seems new considering last time we had checked in DDL was only, “in talks”). The project is a Broadway musical adaptation of “Nine,” which itself was a quasi-adaptation of Fellini’s surrealistic classic, “8 1/2.”
So excellent cast, great pedigree, etc. But apparently Marshall (“Chicago”) likes challenges as he’s also cast Black Eyed Peas stage-wetter Fergie to act in this thing. She will evidently play a ” lusty woman who introduces Guido (Day-Lewis) to the world of sexuality.”
God, DDL acting alongside Fergie?? Will the mismatched scales of acting ever be this much out of synch? Will the reel fly off the projector in theaters it can’t stand it? Maybe it’s a ploy and challenge to audiences from Marshall. We must admit, now we’re trainwreck curious. Shooting starts October in the U.K. Heaven help us all
