'The Bell Jar' Gets A 'Fargo' Reunion As Jesse Plemons Joins Kirsten Dunst's Directorial Debut

In July it was revealed that Kirsten Dunst was making her directorial debut with the film adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s “The Bell Jar.” Dakota Fanning landed the lead role of Esther Greenwood, who goes to NYC for an internship and almost immediately had a mental breakdown. And now another actor is boarding the film.

Dunst’s “Fargo” co-star and IRL boyfriend Jesse Plemons has now been cast as Lenny Shepherd, the boyfriend of Esther’s friend Doreen. It’s another solid role for the actor who always seems just on the brink on becoming the next big thing. And with Fanning and Plemons, Dunst has some great collaborators to bring her film to life, the producers Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder confident about the first time director will bring to the table.

“The themes explored in ‘The Bell Jar’ resonate as strongly in 2016 as they did in 1963, when the novel was first published. Kirsten Dunst’s compelling vision for the film has a vibrant authenticity that modern audiences will embrace, and we are proud to be part of the team bringing her directorial debut to the marketplace,” they said in a statement.
