The book industry, much like the film/TV industry, has undergone a fairly drastic change over the last decade or so. It’s no longer okay to just write a good book. Authors also have to be a larger-than-life personalities who will draw attention to each release, as seen in the new dramedy, “Best Sellers.”

“Best Sellers” stars Aubrey Plaza as a young would-be editor who finds herself running a book publishing company she inherited from her father. To help drive sales, she brings a curmudgeonly, aging author, played by Michael Caine, out of his reclusive existence to write a new novel and go on a book tour. Of course, the cantankerous author isn’t the most welcoming presence on the tour, which leads to newfound infamy and potential book sales.
Joining Aubrey Plaza and Michael Caine in the cast are Ellen Wong, Scott Speedman, and Cary Elwes. “Best Sellers” is directed by Lina Roessler, based on the script by Anthony Greico. The film marks the feature debut for Roessler, who is probably best known for her work in front of the camera.
“Best Sellers” arrives in theaters and VOD on September 17. You can watch the new trailer below.
