Sure, “Hocus Pocus” was released in 1993, but you wouldn’t be wrong for assuming the film was a new release at the height of its popularity. You see, not only has the cult classic, children’s film about three witchy sisters been growing in popularity more and more, over the past couple of decades but this year, we saw “Hocus Pocus” near the top of the box office, as theater owners look for catalog films to attract customers back. And apparently, “Hocus Pocus” is a film that is attracting quite a few crowds, despite being available on home media and streaming services. All this to say, “Hocus Pocus” is definitely popular and apparently, a sequel is just around the corner, with the original cast ready to go.

Over the past year, it’s been reported that Disney has been developing a sequel to “Hocus Pocus,” which would debut on Disney+ in the future. Earlier this year, it was also reported that Adam Shankman would be the director of the project. However, the involvement of the original cast, which includes Bette Midler, Sara Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, was unknown.
According to Midler, at least, the original cast is ready to go. Speaking to Fox 5 New York, the actress confirmed that Disney is working on a sequel and that she and her co-stars are all on board.
“They want to make a movie, they’ve asked us if we were interested and of course all of us said yes,” said Midler. “I’m game, I’m totally game.”
Now, we’ve already seen plenty of instances where films get developed and casting happens but nothing ever gets made. So, it’s not a guarantee that “Hocus Pocus 2” will actually go into production. However, with the crazy popularity of the original film and three co-stars all ready to go, it would be silly for Disney to not get this film made as quickly as possible.
