No, you are not imagining things. We did run a very similar headline a few years ago, the first time Billy Crudup was cast to play Henry Allen, father of Barry aka the titular “The Flash.” But because any news regarding that movie is about as set in stone as the theatrical release calendar for 2020, then everything is being re-announced as the project begins to take form once again.
The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop on Billy Crudup’s casting in “The Flash,” with a reminder that the recent Emmy winner actor has been at least associated with the project since 2016. Billy Crudup was originally cast to star in “The Flash” as Henry Allen when Rick Famuyiwa was hired to direct the film for a 2018 release, but that project quickly fell apart when Famuyiwa departed the film that same year. Crudup did at least get to portray the character of Henry Allen in “Justice League” but he appeared only in one scene.
Following the departure of Rick Famuyiwa, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein were hired to helm the film adaptation of the DC superhero, but also left after a short time. It seems that third time is the charm (technically fourth, since Ezra Miller himself tried to write the script to the film with comicbook writer Grant Morrison), because we’ve never had as many news about a Flash movie as we’ve had since Andy Muschietti took over directorial duties.

What we know so far is that “The Flash” will at least pull some inspiration from the “Flashpoint” comicbook storyline, as the film jump around the multiverse and feature different versions of known characters. Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck are reportedly reprising their roles at Bruce Wayne/Batman. The latest draft of the script was written by Christina Hodson.
