'The Binge' Trailer: 'The Purge' Meets 'Superbad' In Hulu's New Comedy Film

Can you imagine a world where all drugs and alcohol are legal for one day only? Hulu’s new original film “The Binge” is taking on that possibility with a humorous twist. Instead of a ‘Purge‘-like society intent on fear and destruction, the project is proposing the fun aspects of changing the rules (for 24 hours at least).

Teens take the lead this time as three high school students prepare for their own life-changing moments. Griffin (Skyler Gisondo) is intent on finally professing his feelings for Lena (Grace Van Dien). It just so happens that she’s at the rave to end all raves. A  recipe for disaster stirs as the lovesick lead heads out with friends Hags (Dexter Darden) and Andrew (Eduardo Franco) to make the party before time runs out. Along the way, they’ll meet the usual road trip catastrophes with the time-tested tropes that every teen movie since the ‘80s have been shackled to in various forms.

Vince Vaughn is the most notable name among the cast. The actor has toyed with more dramatic fare during the previous decade but current comedic efforts return Vaughn to what made him famous. This time, he’s the headstrong and uptight principal tasked with warning teens as he experiences his own mischief during the night.

The style and tone of “The Binge” hold in line with director Jeremy Garelick’s previous films.  He also wrote and directed Kevin Hart’s 2015 starrer “The Wedding Ringer.” Writing duties on this project go to an equally talented name, writer and actor Jordan VanDina. For the latter, the film offers an interesting glimpse into a writer also tasked with episodes of Hulu’s upcoming “Animaniacs” revival. VanDina also worked with the Crackle series “SuperMansion”, another selection known for its irreverent humor.

One night can change everything, at least for three teenagers, as “The Binge” premieres on Hulu August 28. Check out the trailer for the film below.
