‘Black Christmas’ Trailer: Sophia Takal’s Horror Remake Arrives Just In Time For The Holidays

Christmas is all about getting cozy by the fire with hot cocoa in hand and spending time with the family. But for a set of sorority girls, it’s all about staying out of the clutches of a stalker in “Black Christmas.” From director Sophia Takal, best known for starring in “Green” and directing “Always Shine,” comes a remake of the 1974 holiday horror hit. Takal, along with writer April Wolfe (“Widower”) has taken the work from original director Bob Clark and writer Roy Moore to bring the film into a more modern setting, where sorority girls are hunted one by one by an unstable and criminally insane stalker.

The film has also got the backing of leading horror production house Blumhouse Productions, which has seen them successfully revitalize the “Halloween franchise as well as produce cult classics like “Paranormal Activity.”

The original film is said to be one of the earliest forms of slasher films, with John Carpenter even taking influence from it for his film ‘Halloween,’ and has since become a must-watch for those wanting to get into the Christmas spirit. Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder, and John Saxon originally starred. The film is considered a sleeper hit, as it didn’t do as well during its run in theaters but has since gained popularity over time.

There was a 2006 remake which was loosely based on the original, however, it is not nearly as good as the original, with a score of 4.5 on IMDB, hopefully, this remake won’t be a repeat of that.

Now Blumhouse Productions, headed up by Jason Blum, will produce the remade slasher, along with Ben Cosgrove and Adam Hendricks of Divide/Conquer. There is also executive producer roles for Greg Gilreath and Zac Locke.

The remake will star Cary Elwes (“Saw”), Imogen Poots (“Green Room”), Brittany O’Grady (“Star”), Aleyse Shannon (“Charmed”), Lily Donaghue (“The Goldbergs”) and Caleb Eberhardt.

Here is the synopsis:

Hawthorne College is quieting down for the holidays. One by one, sorority girls on campus are being killed by an unknown stalker. But the killer is about to discover that this generation’s young women aren’t willing to become hapless victims as they mount a fight to the finish.

The film will be in theaters Friday 13th December (spooky, right?). Watch the new trailer below.
