The last season of the Netflix smash-hit “Black Mirror” was just over three years ago. But fear not, Netflix subscribers: the latest sixth season is on the way, and there’s word that this new batch of episodes has a stacked ensemble cast.
Variety reports that “Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul, Zazie Beetz, and British up-and-comer Paapa Essiedu headline the latest group of actors to star in “Black Mirror” season 6. Many other big names and faces are joining the cast, too. Kate Mara, Josh Hartnett, Danny Ramirez, Clara Rugaard, Auden Thornton, and Anjana Vasan also co-star in the new episodes. And Variety also says there will be more casting announcements on the way: this batch of actors spans only three episodes. Netflix will announce further episodes and the actors in them later on.
It comes as no surprise to “Black Mirror” fans that the upcoming season has such a star-studded cast. Last season also had a slew of memorable names in it, including Anthony Mackie, Andrew Scott, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace, and Miley Cyrus. Season 5 only had three episodes on it, so this season sounds like it’s a lot more ambitious.
Also of note: “Black Mirror” season 6 is the first series creator Charlie Brooker and his creative partner Annabel Jones will make out of their new production banner Broke And Bones. They moved on from their previous one, House Of Tomorrow, backed by the Endemol Shine Group, back in January 2020, and Netflix promptly invested $100 million into the company. The show’s future was briefly in doubt when the Binajay Group acquired Endemol in 2018, but thanks to Brooker and Jones’ move, more “Black Mirror” seasons are on the way.
As for the new cast, they’re all over recent TV and movies. After his iconic role as Jessie Pinkman in “Breaking Bad,” Paul’s latest TV work is on HBO‘s “Westworld.” Beetz stars in the final two seasons of FX‘s hit show “Atlanta.” Essiedu just had a smaller role in Alex Garland‘s “Men” but a more prominent one in the upcoming series “The Lazarus Project.” As for Hartnett, he was in last year’s “The Fear Index” from Sky Atlantic, and has a role in Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming film “Oppenheimer.” Hartnett also stars n Guy Ritchie‘s spy actioner “Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre,” currently suspended from theatrical release thanks to the film having Ukrainian villains.
Meanwhile, Danny Ramirez stars in uber-blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick,” with his next role in the upcoming film “Look Both Ways.” Ruugard, a Danish actor, just led the Sky series “The Rising.” Thornton was part of the cast of NBC‘s family drama “This Is Us,” and Vasan broke out with her role in Peacock‘s punk comedy “We Are Lady Parts.”
So, good news for “Black Mirror” fans: a new season with lots of episodes, and an intriguing cast list, with more actors to be added later.
