“Black Monday” may not be the buzziest show on television, but with a cast like Don Cheadle, Andrew Rannells (“Girls,” “The Boys in the Band“), Regina Hall (“Support the Girls,” “Girls Trip“), Paul Scheer (“Veep”), Michael James Scott and Eugene Cordero, the Showtime series is proving all you need to survive in TV is have a dedicated audience. And through some acclaim that’s only grown over time, “Black Monday” has now quietly reached its third season.

“Black Monday” is is executive produced by Cheadle, and the series is created by showrunners and executive producers David Caspe (“Happy Endings“) and Jordan Cahan (“My Best Friend’s Girl“). Emmy nominees Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (“Good Boys,” “The Boys“) serve as executive producers.

“Black Monday is set in the late 80s during a “Black Monday,” one of the worst stock market crashes in the history of Wall Street. Season one began when Maurice “Mo” Monroe (Cheadle, who earned an Emmy nomination for his role) and his group of outsiders took on the blue-blood, old-boys club of 1987 Wall Street amidst that stock market crash. Here’s the official synopsis:
Travel back to October 19, 1987, aka Black Monday, the worst stock market crash in the history of Wall Street. To this day, no one knows who caused it – until now. This is the story of how a group of outsiders took on the blue-blood, old-boys club of Wall Street and ended up crashing the world’s largest financial system, a Lamborghini limousine, and the glass ceiling. The outrageous comedy series stars Don Cheadle, Andrew Rannells, and Regina Hall.
As season three begins, Monroe and the gang (the same “sh*t starters”) have been kicked out of Wall Street, dealing with that aftermath, but always on the neverending hustle. The third season of “Black Monday,” which also features Ken Marino and Casey Wilson, premieres on May 23 at 10/9c on SHOWTIME. Watch the first trailer below.
