After hitting it big thanks to the “Austin Powers” franchise, filmmaker Jay Roach has decided to go in a very different direction with his more recent projects. And that can best be seen by the fact that he’s fully shed his slapstick comedy past to embrace a much more serious, true story in “Bombshell.”
As seen in the new trailer for “Bombshell,” the film follows the highly-publicized true story of Roger Ailes and his alleged misconduct while being the head of Fox News. The story is filled with recognizable names of characters, many of which had their own TV series on the cable network during the time of Ailes’ issues, including Megyn Kelly, Gretchen Carlson, and more.
Roach has enlisted the Academy Award-winning writer Charles Randolph as the man behind the script for “Bombshell.” Previously, Randolph won his Oscar as the writer of Adam McKay’s film “The Big Short.”
The absolutely incredible cast includes Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie, Kate McKinnon, Connie Britton, Mark Duplass, Rob Delaney, Malcolm McDowell, Allison Janney, Alice Eve, and John Lithgow, who plays Ailes. In many of the early reactions to the film, it appears that the entire cast turns in stunning performances.
“Bombshell” is expected to make a lot of waves this awards season when it arrives in theaters on December 20. You can watch the new trailer below.
