The way Sacha Baron Cohen handles his alter-egos/characters is great for viewers, but also a bit of a bummer. Baron Cohen fully inhabits each of his characters that its almost as if he has these weird clones of himself wandering around the world. Sadly, however, when Baron Cohen puts these characters on national TV or in films, they’re normally retired, due to the fact that he’s no longer anonymous. That’s what makes this new video such a delight. Because after a decade-long absence, Baron Cohen dusted off everyone’s favorite Kazakhstani, Borat, for a new skit.
As most everyone knows by now, last night was the mid-term elections in the United States. Many viewed this year’s election cycle as the first chance that Americans would be able to voice their support/disapproval for Donald Trump in a real way. And what better time for Baron Cohen to bring out Borat, with his anti-Semitic ways than to have him go canvassing for Republicans?
The skit was part of last night’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” where Baron Cohen was a guest to promote the DVD release of his latest Showtime series “Who is America?” The video features Borat, complete with his signature mustache, as he goes door to door in Southern California to ask the questions on everyone’s mind, such as “What make Premier Trump such a good Premier?” and “Who are the fake news that he is not a racist?”
You didn’t read that last question wrong, as Borat explains that he’s a proud racist and is happy that Trump is also. The video ends with Borat doing everything he can to keep Jewish people from voting at the polls, even using bacon as a deterrent.
Overall, this is classic Baron Cohen and a welcome return to form for Borat. Maybe there’s a chance for more Borat in the future?
