Got a Tip?

Brad Anderson Boards Serial-Killer Thriller ‘Jack’

Brad Anderson is set to take the helm of psychological serial-killer flick, “Jack,” which is being sold as an “incredibly commercial thriller, laced with tension and suspense.” “Jack” is being produced by Bold Films with sales currently handled by Affinity International in Cannes. Shooting will begin late August based on a script by David Venable.

The film will center on a serial killer suffering from amnesia who falls in love with a doctor. When memories begin to surface of his murderous past though, the man must decide whether to make a new start in his life or embrace “the killer within.”

Anderson replaces the previously attached Joseph Ruben with the project to mark his sixth feature film, the most notable being 2008’s “Transiberian” starring Woody Harrelson and Emily Moritmer and 2004 “The Machinist” starring a pre-‘Batman’ Christian Bale.

We feel like Anderson is sort of underrated but still hasn’t quite fulfilled his promise as a director. He’s clearly talented, has directed episodes of “The Wire,” “Fringe,” “Treme,” “Homicide: Life on the Streets” (clearly David Simon likes him which is a plus in our book) and his 2000 film “Happy Accidents” (a sort of lo-fi sci-fi-ish love story with Marisa Tomei and Vincent D’Onofrio) is really interesting for a small little indie. At one point, he had another project set up with Christian Bale clearly indicating that the cantankerous actor valued Anderson’s work and the director seems to have a knack for targeting great talent who go on to bigger and better things (see the aforementioned “Happy Accidents” and “The Machinist” and 1998’s “Next Stop Wonderland” with Hope Davis and Philip Seymour Hoffman).

While “Transsiberian” didn’t exactly get rave reviews, we hope that Anderson finds his breakout project soon; could “Jack” be it? We hope so.
