In most of the reports about Harvey Weinstein’s alleged inappropriate behavior, we hear about victims being alone or unable to fight back. However, in the case of Gwyneth Paltrow, she had someone come forward and actually stand up to the Hollywood mogul.
In a new interview on The Howard Stern Show (via The Wrap), Paltrow talks about how Weinstein apparently made unwanted advances toward her in the early ‘90s. “It was out of the blue. I was blindsided,” Paltrow said of the incident. “I was shocked.”
At the time, Paltrow was romantically linked to Brad Pitt, and when she relayed the story to her partner, the actor was not pleased with Weinstein. According to Paltrow, while the couple attended the 1995 opening night of a Broadway production of “Hamlet,” they noticed that Harvey Weinstein was in attendance. Paltrow says that Brad Pitt went up to Weinstein and told him, “If you ever make her feel uncomfortable again., I’ll kill you.”
“It was the equivalent of throwing him against the wall, energetically,” Paltrow said about Pitt. “He leveraged his fame and power to protect me at a time when I didn’t have fame or power yet … he’s the best.”
During the discussion, the actress reiterated what many of Weinstein’s victims have said about feeling powerless and fearing that if they spurned his advances, then they’re careers could be finished. As we know now, Weinstein has been exposed and his film company has been dismantled.
