Got a Tip?

‘Brüno’ One-Sheet Poster: School Boy Yellow, Gay, Noveau Lederhosen?

Üniversal Pictures’ upcoming comedy “Brüno,” the Sacha Baron Cohen-led follow-up to “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan,” finally has itself a poster that was release late Friday when we were out of town.

The tagline reads, “Borat was so 2006,” which does seem to be the case especially since the 20-minutes of “Brüno” footage we saw at SXSW did make Cohen’s Kazakhstani character’s picture seem like child’s play.

The gauntlet has been thrown down and the transgressive bar has been raised to almost frightening heights. We do wonder how ever, how much “Brüno” could be neutered considering it once received an NC-17 rating and than had to be scaled back to an R.

Sure, that was probably studio, buzz-baiting tactics, but we’d still rather see the uncut version (DVD, hopefully?) because the moments we saw in Austin were downright shockingly outrageous.

We’re not sure what the poster is going for exactly — gay nouveau-lederhosen look? That’s a lot of schoolboy yellow. You can probably find more info on the design on Bruno’s meinspace page if you can tolerate the obnoxious dance music.

“Brüno” arrives in theaters on July 10, 2009. Here’s one version of the trailer in case you missed it.
