Quite often in Hollywood, projects get announced and then they wind up sitting around collecting dust, and we had feared that had happened with “The Old Man And The Gun.” First revealed back in 2013, the project teamed David Lowery, who has hot off “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” at the time, with Robert Redford for an intriguing sounding crime flick. Well, the duo instead got together for this summer’s lovely “Pete’s Dragon,” and now they’re ready to blow the dust off that prior project and get it going. And they’ll have a great talent coming along to join them.

Casey Affleck has signed up to reteam with Lowery for “The Old Man And The Gun.” Based on the true story of Forrest Tucker (Redford), a lifelong bank robber who never shook the thrill of the chase, the movie retraces the criminal’s twilight years, from his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounds authorities and enchants the public. Wrapped up in this chase are a detective (Affleck) who becomes captivated with Forrest’s commitment to his craft and a woman who loves him in spite of his chosen profession.
Filming will begin next spring, and the project is going to be a big-ticket item when it hits the American Film Market next week, where it will be presented to buyers.
