Casting Call Goes Out For Terrence Malick's Next Film, Shooting To Begin In September; Producer Confirms 'The Tree Of Life' Will Hit By End Of Year

We can hardly believe it either, but with Terrence Malick presumably still putting the finishing touches on “The Tree Of Life,” he is already set to begin work on his next film, an untitled romantic drama set to star Ben Affleck, Rachel Weisz, Javier Bardem, Rachel McAdams and Olga Kurylenko.

News of the new film came about after a call for crew members went out on the Oklahoma Film & Music Office website, with instructions to forward CVs to Redbud Pictures. Some careful digging by TulsaWorld revealed that the company was registered in Oklahoma in March and in Texas in April, with none other than one Terrence Malick listed as the manager.

The Oklahoman also revealed that this past weekend Freihofer Casting held an open casting call “for actors and extras to be considered for speaking and nonspeaking roles in an upcoming family oriented Hollywood romantic drama to be filmed in Oklahoma.” When pressed for details Oklahoma Film & Music Office director Jill Simpson wouldn’t confirm what film was being cast saying, “Well, we’re scouting a number of films right now and there is a major film slotted for September in the Bartlesville area, and one for October in the Oklahoma City metro, and these are high-quality productions and there’s casting going on and they are coming in, but that’s about all I can say.”

We’re not sure why Simpson is playing coy as producer Nicolas Gonda himself showed up in Bartlesville himself to address the forthcoming production, and also revealed that “The Tree Of Life” is indeed on track for a release by the end of the year. That jives with previous reports from various sources that seemed to indicate that a release this year was in the offing.

Anyhow, lots of good news on the horizon for Malick fans with two films presumably set to arrive in the time span that it usually takes the director to make just one.
