With the opioid crisis becoming such a massive problem in the United States, it was only a matter of time before films started to explore the full depths of this epidemic, as it destroys countless lives. And that’s what happens in the new drama, “Castle in the Ground.”

As seen in the trailer for the film, “Castle in the Ground” tells the story of a teen boy that becomes ensnared in the deadly opioid epidemic when he befriends a troubled neighbor after he experiences a loss of his own. The charismatic neighbor opens the boy’s eyes to the world of addiction and violence that has engulfed the small town that they live in. As you might expect, things don’t go so well.
The film stars Alex Wolff and Imogen Poots, two great young actors that are sure to make this film a must-see. Wolff is probably best known for his work in films such as the two recent ‘Jumanji’ sequels, “Thoroughbreds,” “My Friend Dahmer,” and of course, his incredible performance in Ari Aster’s “Hereditary.” Poots, on the other hand, has starred in films such as “Knight of Cups,” “Mobile Homes,” “Frank & Lola,” and the recently released, “Vivarium.”
‘Castle’ also stars Tom Cullen, Keir Gilchrist, and Neve Campbell. “Castle in the Ground” is written and directed by Joey Klein, who previously wrote and directed the 2016 film, “The Other Half,” which screened at the SXSW Film Festival.
The film debuted at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, where it received some favorable reviews. “Castle in the Ground” arrives on VOD on May 15.
