Tom Hardy Gets Fans All Bent Out Of Shape With Venom/Spider-Man Crossover Tease

Normally, if you’re following Tom Hardy on Instagram, you’re doing so because he’s always bound to surprise you with whatever he might post next. Sometimes it’s a behind-the-scenes picture from a film he’s working on (those “Fonzo” posts are iconic). Other times, you have him showing off photoshopped pictures of dogs in human clothes. Honestly, his Instagram is one of the more interesting celebrity follows around. And the other day, the actor posted a “Venom” tease that hinted at a crossover with a certain Webhead that got fans all worked up, just in time for him to delete it.

Brandon Davis (from Comicbook.com) was able to screenshot the image that clearly showed the film version of Venom, the anti-hero that Hardy portrayed in the 2018 film of the same name and the upcoming sequel, “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” eating the Tom Holland MCU Spider-Man. No context was given to the post. No explanation at all. And just as people started to notice the post, it was deleted, with nary a reason given.

So, what does it mean?!?! Likely nothing.

You see, Hardy also loves to post pictures of fan art created based on his “Venom” character. In fact, back in November, he posted some uncredited art that showed faces of Venom side-by-side with Carnage, superimposed over what looks to be a crow. Does this mean that the Sony franchise is going to team up with the long-in-development reboot of “The Crow?” Nope. It’s just an image that Hardy liked and shared.

This whole Venom eating Spider-Man image that he shared is also, likely, just a piece of art that he liked and shared. It’s definitely not some proof that Sony is going to have Holland’s Spidey show up in the ‘Venom’ sequel. But if you look on social media, you’d swear that Tom Hardy just held a press conference and outlined the full plan to introduce Venom into the MCU and lead to some massive crossover.

Here are just some of the tweets:

Look, as has also been pointed out by people with much more reasoning than others, this isn’t the first time that Hardy has posted things related to Venom and Spider-Man meeting. Again, this is just more proof that the actor just posts whatever he wants and doesn’t think about the larger fandom and their reaction to it.

But it is kinda fun watching everyone get so bent out of shape by silly fan art.

“Venom: Let There Be Carnage” is expected to hit theaters on June 25, 2021. The untitled ‘Spider-Man 3’ is currently listed as July 17, 2021, but let’s be real, that is going to change. With the likely delay in production, it could be a bit longer before we see the third ‘Spider-Man’ film.
