Got a Tip?

Cate Blanchett Reportedly Working With Jim Jarmusch On New Film

It’s been quite a while since Jim Jarmusch has released a film. Five years, actually. And it’s been even longer since he’s teamed up with Cate Blanchett. But apparently, both of those issues will be solved in the future. We’re just not entirely sure what that means.

In a new interview with the French outlet Le Figaro, there’s a comment made by the author that states Cate Blanchett doesn’t want to talk about some of her new projects, which include “her upcoming reunion with Jim Jarmusch.” Say what? Unfortunately, there’s no other mention of what that project might be or when we might see it. But apparently, if you believe that report, Cate Blanchett is reteaming with Jim Jarmusch on… something (and if you’re wondering what she appeared in before, that’s a part in one of the vignettes from 2003’s “Coffee and Cigarettes,” where she played dual roles, watch it below).

This does align with the news surrounding what Jarmusch has coming up. Before the lengthy SAG strike, the filmmaker had teased that he anticipated starting production on a new film, rumored to be titled “Father Mother Sister Brother,” towards the end of 2023. Obviously, the strike pushed back just about every project in Hollywood, so you have to assume the filmmaker’s plans were altered. Is this project the reunion with Blanchett? It would make sense, right?

Famously, Blanchett and Jarmusch teamed up for 2003’s “Coffee and Cigarettes,” which served as a showcase for Blanchett, as she played dual roles in the anthology film. Since then, obviously, the two Hollywood figures have gone on to be bigger than ever, with Blanchett becoming one of the most respected and acclaimed actors of her generation and Jarmusch continuing to push his filmmaking further with films such as “Only Lovers Left Alive,” “Paterson,” and the most recent “The Dead Don’t Die.”

If this is real and Blanchett is going to work with Jarmusch on a future film, we’ll anxiously await any news we can find.

Big bonus: check out this amusing conversation between Blanchett and Sparks released only one month ago (she starred in their music video for “The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte” last year).
