Check Out Cate Blanchett In Sparks' New Music Video For 'The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte'

Cate Blanchett is in the awards hunt again this year for her stellar performance in Todd Field‘s “TÁR.” But before everyone finds out if she adds a third Oscar to her impressive repertoire, check out the actress in something more offbeat. What may that be? Blanchett stars in the music video for “The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte,” the first single and title track for Sparks‘ anticipated 26th studio album.

“The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte” marks the first release by Sparks through Island Records in nearly five decades. Their last release through the label came in 1974, with “Kimono My House,” with its hit single “This Town Ain’t Big Enough For Both Of Us.” Sparks’ new album releases on Friday, May 26, but their new music video with Blanchette should drum up some hype beforehand.

“We met Cate Blanchett in Paris at the César Awards last year,” Ron and Russell Mael said in a feature for Variety about the music video, “little knowing that a year later, one of the great actors of our time (and a splendid person!) would graciously consent to lending her bootie-shaking skills to the first video from our new album, ‘The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte’. Dreams really do come true. We will sleep well tonight knowing that forever we can say we co-starred in a film with Cate Blanchett!”

Sparks kicks off a world tour in May three days before their new album drops. The US portion of the tour begins on June 27 in New York City at the Beacon Theatre, and culminates July 15 at the Hollywood Bowl in LA. As for Blanchett, find out if she wins Best Actress for her turn in “TÁR” on March 12.
