‘Child Star’ Trailer: Demi Lovato Examines The Price Of Childhood Fame With Drew Barrymore, Christina Ricci & Many More

What is it like to be a child star? For many kids, being a celebrity seems like a dream come true. In reality, those dreams quickly became nightmares for the adolescent performers who found themselves in the spotlight. The new Hulu film “Child Star” examines what it means to be young and famous. It hails from co-directors Demi Lovato and Nicola Marsh. Lovato is all too familiar with the topic, starring in Disney channel favorites like “Sonny with a Chance” and “Camp Rock.” The performer was also the main subject of another recent documentary. “Demi Lovato: Dancing With The Devil” explored a devastating moment in Lovato’s life and her recovery.

Child Star” explores the highs and lows of growing up in the spotlight through the lens of some of the world’s most well-known former child stars. Through celebrity interviews, verite scenes, and archival footage, this film deconstructs the stages of earlier stardom and looks at the entertainment system over the last century. Lovato sits down with iconic former child stars such as Drew Barrymore, Kenan Thompson, Christina Ricci, Raven-Symoné, JoJo Siwa, Alyson Stoner, and more to reflect on their personal experiences working in the entertainment industry in never-before-heard stories. Together, they take a look at the next generation of child actors and how to move forward in an ever-changing landscape. The film will mark Demi Lovato’s directorial debut, with Nicola Marsh co-directing with OBB Pictures, SB Films, and DLG producing.

Nicola B. Marsh, Scooter Braun, Scott Manson, Jen McDaniels, and James Shin serve as executive producers, with Glenn Stickley serving as co-executive producer on “Child Star.” The film arrives on Hulu on September 17. Watch the new trailer below.
