Ringo Starr Confirms Barry Keoghan Will Play Him In Sam Mendes’ 4-Part Beatles Film Series

One of the biggest projects that exists only in reports and rumors is a four-part Beatles film project directed by none other than Sam Mendes. The reports say that the film will tackle the Beatles’ story from the perspective of each member. That means a film focused on each member of the iconic band. And while there have been rumors about casting, nothing has been confirmed. Well, until Ringo Starr spoiled it.

Speaking in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ringo Starr was asked about the rumor that Barry Keoghan would play him in the upcoming Beatles film series by Sam Mendes. The legendary drummer not only confirmed that Keoghan would play him in the films, but he said that the actor is currently learning how to play the drums.

“It’s great,” said Starr about Keoghan playing him. “I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons. And I hope not too many. [Laughs]”

Keoghan’s inclusion in the Beatles project confirms a rumor that has been floating around for a while now. As for who else is going to play the other members of the band, it’s been rumored that Joseph Quinn would play George Harrison and Paul Mescal for Paul McCartney. Then you have Harris Dickinson rumored to be John Lennon.

Interestingly enough, in a recent interview with Dazed, Dickinson didn’t deny the news that he is slated to play John Lennon. He just gave a really cagey answer.

“There’s nothing I can say about that,” said Dickinson. “It might not be true, it might be, I don’t know… there’s a speculation culture.”

As you have probably surmised, this Beatles project is a huge undertaking for Sam Mendes and the actors who sign on. That said, if it’s done well enough (and the rumored actors are all great), then it could become the definitive take on the Beatles source material. We’ll just have to wait and see.
