Got a Tip?

Chloe Moretz & Jeffrey Dean Morgan Get In ‘The Rut’ For ‘Girlfight’ Director Karyn Kusama

nullAs far as young actresses go, Chloe Moretz certainly has her pick of the litter when it comes to prospective projects at the moment. After dazzling audiences in the Martin Scorsese-directed “Hugo” this past fall, Moretz will next be seen in another high profile project, Tim Burton’s upcoming adaptation of the ‘70s British supernatural soap “Dark Shadows."

Well it looks like the actress has another intriguing project to add to her increasingly busy slate of films, as The Hollywood Reporter has word that she’ll be joining “Watchmen” actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the Karyn Kusmama helmed “The Rut.” Remember Morgan also starred alongside Moretz in the ultimately frustrating and uneven “Texas Killing Fields,” so the two should have some type of working rapport in place to prepare them to play father and daughter in “The Rut.”

The film is penned by scribe Kevin Caruso, is said to be a mix of "Winter’s Bone" and "Into the Wild,” and will follow the story of a young girl (Moretz) who attempts to impress her father (Morgan) by heading out on her own into the dangers of the wilderness in effort to hunt deer. Financing is set to be in place as the film is gearing up for a potential October start.

This writer is a part of the small contingent who heralds the Kusuma-directed “Jennifer’s Body” as an underrated horror comedy, though that has much to do with the offbeat dialogue and quirky characters of Diablo Cody’s script. Kusuma can frame a pretty shot as evident in 'Body' and the vapid action picture “Aeon Flux,” but hasn’t really done an intimate drama of this sort since 2000’s slight girl boxing drama “Girlfight.” So we'll be curious to see her once again in the realm of an intimate drama, with what seems will be some genre elements.
