Got a Tip?

Chris Pine Doesn’t Have ‘Star Trek’ Updates But Says A Tarantino Version Would Be “Tremendously Interesting”

If you’re a fan of “Star Trek,” then you’re probably wondering what the hell is going on with the feature film side of the franchise. On TV, ‘Trek’ is thriving, as CBS All Access continues to pump out new series with more on the way. But on film, it’s an entirely different situation. Multiple sequels to “Star Trek Beyond” have been developed with none moving forward. And just recently, the head of Paramount said they’re basically starting over. The confusion bleeds into the world of Chris Pine, as well, as the most recent Captain Kirk is just as in the dark as the rest of us about his role in the franchise.

Speaking to Comicbook.com, Pine was asked specifically about the news that Quentin Tarantino worked on a script for a “Star Trek” film. And in his response, the actor explained that not only has he read that script, but he also has no clue what’s going on with the future of ‘Trek’ on the big screen.

“You know, I haven’t [read a script],” Pine said. “I really, in terms of the ‘Star Trek’ of it all, I wish I knew anything. I’m quite literally one of the last people ever to find out. So, I haven’t read that script, I don’t know where it is in development, I haven’t read the Noah Hawley script, I have no idea what’s happening in ‘Star Trek’ land. But I love the character, I love the universe, I love my friends in it, you know, to have Quentin take on it would be tremendously interesting and entertaining. You know, look, whatever happens, if I come back or not, it’s a great universe, it deserves to have a future, and I hope that is the case.”

The last major news we heard about Pine and “Star Trek 4” was the report that contract negotiations stalled and that was preventing a time-traveling adventure that would have actually co-starred Kirk’s father, played by Chris Hemsworth. Then it appeared that Noah Hawley was working on a ‘Trek’ film that didn’t actually feature the crew of the Enterprise. And now? Who knows?

Regardless, it does appear that Pine is down for more “Star Trek” appearances, whatever form those take. We’ll just have to see what Paramount has in store for the franchise.
