Noah Hawley Says 'Alien' TV Series & 'Star Trek' Sequel Aren't Happening Anytime Soon, If Ever

Noah Hawley is easily one of the most sought-after filmmakers in Hollywood. Thanks to four seasons of solid TV with “Fargo,” there are tons of people anxiously awaiting whatever he has next on the schedule. For a while, that seemed like “Star Trek 4,” or maybe even an “Alien” TV series, but apparently, the future is pretty wide open for Hawley and those two projects likely won’t factor into the equation.

Speaking to Deadline, Hawley opened up about the future of “Alien,” “Star Trek,” and whether or not there’s a Season 5 of “Fargo” around the corner.

“I know that there’s an effort to reshuffle a lot of things post-Disney takeover and [the ‘Alien’ TV series] was a conversation that I had a couple years back,” explained Hawley. “And I have not in the last few weeks been having those conversations about it. But I know that like any studio that there’s a great desire to make the most of one’s library so I wouldn’t be surprised to see something like that.”

He added, “Ya know, I have conversations from time to time but I’m not committed.”

As for his other high-profile franchise project that has seemingly been shelved due to studio shakeup, a new “Star Trek” feature, it appears that film is also nowhere near ready to begin production. That is, if it isn’t already completely dead.

“[‘Star Trek’] doesn’t appear to be in my immediate future,” he said. “I think when Emma [Watts] came [to Paramount], she took a look at the franchise and wanted to go in a different direction with it. But you know, life is long, we were very close to production but in this business that doesn’t mean much. You got to get out of the gate to be in the race if you know what I mean.”

Even though these are two projects that fans have been eagerly waiting news on, there is at least one Hawley project that he’s confident about happening, even if it isn’t in the immediate future — “Fargo” Season 5. When asked if he already has a plan for the upcoming season, Hawley said, “I don’t have any beats there. I mean, I think I have an interest in mind, but I haven’t been able to really develop yet. But I’ve stopped saying that I’m not interested in doing another one, but I think I would come back closer to our present moment.”

For now, fans of Hawley will have to just rewatch Season 4 of “Fargo,” which just wrapped up its latest season last night.
