It’s hard not to get excited for a new series when it stars two actresses as talented as Zoe Kazan and Betty Gabriel. And that’s exactly what makes the upcoming Netflix series, “Clickbait,” so promising. Now, let’s hope the mystery at the center of the series is worthy of their abilities.
As seen in the trailer for “Clickbait,” the new series tells the story of a man who is kidnapped seemingly without any sort of motivation. He’s a good spouse, a loving father, a great brother, and a pretty nice guy all around. So, why would anyone kidnap him? And why would he then show up in video online with a sign that says after 5 million views, he’s going to die? It’s that last bit that thrusts the series forward as the folks involved in his life have to piece together the mystery and figure out if there’s something from this man’s past that is causing all this chaos.
The series stars Zoe Kazan, Betty Gabriel, and Adrian Grenier. “Clickbait” has episodes directed by Brad Anderson, Emma Freeman, Ben Young, and Laura Besley.
“Clickbait” debuts on August 25 on Netflix. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Nick Brewer (Adrian Grenier) is a loving father, husband, and brother, who one day suddenly and mysteriously disappears. A video appears on the internet of the badly beaten Nick holding a card that says “I abuse women. At 5 million views, I die”. Is this a threat or confession? Or both? As his sister (Zoe Kazan) and wife (Betty Gabriel) rush to find and save him, they uncover a side of Nick they didn’t know existed. An eight-episode limited series told from revolving points of view, Clickbait is a compelling, high stakes thriller that explores the ways in which our most dangerous and uncontrolled impulses are fueled in the age of social media, revealing the ever-widening fractures we find between our virtual and real-life personas.
