It’s been a royal pain to wait for it, but the first family of Zamunda is back and so it the long-awaited trailer for “Coming 2 America,” the belated sequel to the 1980s comedy classic, “Coming To America,” starring Eddie Murphy.
Eddie Murphy is pretty particular and won’t just star in any sequel to his classic films, but filmmaker Craig Brewer (“Hustle & Flow,” “Black Snake Moan“), seems to have earned the comedians trust. He starred in Brewer’s 2019 film “Dolemite Is My Name,” and Brewer once again is the person behind the camera of “Coming 2 America.”
Written by Kenya Barris and Barry W. Blaustein & David Sheffield, “Coming 2 America” has a huge cast that includes Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Shari Headley, with Wesley Snipes and James Earl Jones. Also starring John Amos, Teyana Taylor, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Paul Bates, Nomzamo Mbatha, Bella Murphy.
Directed by John Landis, the original film obviously centers on an extremely pampered African Prince who travels to Queens, New York, and goes undercover to find a wife that he can respect for her intelligence and will, rather than agree to an arrainged marriage.
The sequel, which arrives 33 years after the original, centers on a long-lost son in the United States. Akeem learns he has a boy in the U.S. and must return to America to meet the unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, newly-crowned King Akeem (Eddie Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi(Arsenio Hall) embark on an all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began.
