The latest trailer for Warner Bros’ “Companion” is here. The movie is touted as a “unique love story” by the creators of the acclaimed 2022 horror movie “Barbarian,” but details on what that entails are kept under wraps, until now. “Barbarian” filmmaker Zach Cregger is one of “Companion’s” executive producers, alongside Roy Lee, Raphael Margules, and J.D. Lifshitz, who were also part of “Barbarian’s” producing team.

“Barbarian” was a massive critical and commercial success. Through its smart marketing campaign, which encouraged viewers not to read or watch anything prior to seeing the movie, this relatively low-budget horror film grossed over $45 million worldwide on a $4.5 million budget. Warner Bros. seems intent on recreating that same success, with some who have already seen the movie raving about it on social media.
Drew Hancock will make his feature directorial debut with “Companion” and has also written the screenplay. The film boasts an impressive cast, including Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend.
Some social media reactions to the movie have expressed that audiences are not prepared for the wild ride they will be a part of, while others have praised Sophie Thatcher’s lead performance. Thatcher is making quite the name for herself in the horror genre, having starred in “The Boogeyman” and, most recently, “Heretic.”
Per the movie’s official website, the plot synopsis also keeps information on the movie quite vague:
New Line Cinema—the studio that brought you “The Notebook”—and the unhinged creators of “Barbarian” cordially invite you to experience a new kind of love story…
What this “new kind” of love story entails remains to be seen, but you can check out the trailer below and get some idea of the “kind” of movie it will be. “Companion” releases on January 31.
