Summer is now, sadly, a distant memory and we’ll be honest—we’re hard pressed to favorably remember anything from the multiplex. But luckily for those who were a bit more adventurous and sought out movies that weren’t sequels, prequels or CGI fests, there was still some small treasures to be found. One that certainly left an impression was the feature debut from Jordan Vogt-Roberts, “The Kings Of Summer.” If somehow you didn’t manage to catch the film, the good news is you’ve got a chance to now, and happily we can help you out.
Led by the youthful trio of Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso and Moises Arias, and supported by an ace roster of players that include Nick Offerman, Alison Brie and Megan Mullally, the film chronicles three friends who run away from the various problems at home, and spend the summer in a house they build far out in the words. Learning to live on their own and navigating the tricky waters of young love as girls enter the picture, they learn a lot about themselves and each other. Here’s the official synopsis:
Three teenage friends—Joe (Robinson), Patrick (Basso) and the eccentric and unpredictable Biaggio
(Arias)—decide to spend their summer building a house in the woods and living off the land. Free from their
parents’ rules, their idyllic summer quickly becomes a test of friendship as each boy learns to appreciate the fact
that family—whether it is the one you’re born into or the one you create—is something you can’t run away from.
