Looks like being good just got a whole lot more complicated. DreamWorks Animation’s beloved band of reformed animal outlaws returns in “The Bad Guys 2,” a globe-trotting, action-packed sequel that proves turning over a new leaf is easier said than done.
Following the first film’s events, the once-notorious Bad Guys—Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, Mr. Piranha, and Ms. Tarantula are trying their best to stay on the right side of the law. But their good intentions are chaotic when they cross paths with a new crew of high-stakes criminals: the Bad Girls.
Leading this fierce new team is Kitty Kat, a dangerously clever snow leopard voiced by Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks. Maria Bakalova joins her as Pigtail, a genius Bulgarian wild boar with a knack for gadgets, and Natasha Lyonne as Doom, a deadpan raven with a talent for trickery. Their arrival shakes up the original team—and the story—with style and swagger.
The returning cast includes Sam Rockwell as Mr. Wolf, Marc Maron as Mr. Snake, Craig Robinson as Mr. Shark, Anthony Ramos as Mr. Piranha, and Awkwafina as Webs, the hacker tarantula. Fan favorites Zazie Beetz, Richard Ayoade, Alex Borstein, and Lilly Singh also reprise their roles.
Director Pierre Perifel and producer Damon Ross are back at the helm, with JP Sans joining as co-director. Oscar-nominated composer Daniel Pemberton handles the music again, promising another lively, genre-blending score.
Based on Aaron Blabey’s best-selling children’s book series, which skyrocketed from 8 million to over 30 million copies sold since the first movie’s debut, “The Bad Guys 2” promises bigger laughs, bolder action, and a brand-new twist on who’s really “bad.”
“The Bad Guys 2” arrives in theaters August 1. Watch the new trailer below.
