Pairing up hot young things Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone in a movie together is a no brainer, and Warner Bros. has done it twice already, first with last summer's hit comedy "Crazy, Stupid, Love" and then in the upcoming (and now undated) "Gangster Squad." And if 'Crazy' directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa get their way, the studio will once again reunite the duo.
Deadline reports that Ficarra and Requa are putting together their next directorial effort "Focus" and they want to power it with Gosling and Stone. And it does sound a like project that would fit those two like a glove. The script, penned by Ficarra and Requa, tells the story of a veteran conman who becomes romantically involved with a newcomer, and finds the relationship challenged by their illegal activities. And when they meet again down the line, the complications have long-lasting effects.
It kind of sounds like they took Jim Carrey's character from "I Love You Philip Morris" and spun-off a new story, but it's certainly an intriguing one. Just where this fits into the directors' slate that includes the stock market drama "Liar's Poker"; a backpacking comedy and a buddy cop movie, remains to be seen. Then there's making deals and arranging schedules for Gosling and Stone — something Warner Bros. says is way too early in the game at this point — which could be tricky too. So nice idea so far, but it remains to be seen if it will happen.
