Michael B. Jordan’s ‘Creed III’ Should Look At These Films For Threequel Inspiration [The Playlist Podcast]

For years, the word “threequel” sent shivers down the spines of film fans the world over. A sequel is tough enough, but a sequel to a sequel? Hardly ever turns out great, right? Well, Michael B. Jordan is hoping to break that curse as the star and director(!) of “Creed III.” And to help, The Playlist Podcast is offering three films that are some of the best threequels to ever grace the big screen.

Inspired by the official announcement that Michael B. Jordan will make his directorial debut with the forthcoming “Creed III,” which will hit theaters in November 2022, Charles, Mike, and Brian take a look at a few threequels and don’t actually suck. In fact, they’re pretty great. Those films include “Back to the Future Part 3,” “Die Hard with a Vengeance,” and “War for the Planet of the Apes.” So, hopefully, Mr. Jordan is listening and willing to take the hosts’ suggestions.

Of course, you can’t talk about threequels without talking about the fact that most of these sequels to sequels aren’t great at all. And to be quite blunt, most are downright terrible. So, the podcast goes down the rabbit hole to point out some of the absolute worst threequels to ever get filmed. And you better believe Charles mentions “RoboCop 3.”
