The common notion about stand-up comedians is that they are largely broken people that have an intuitive way to see society for how it really is. That is readily apparent in the new comedy film, “Daddy Issues.”

As seen in the trailer for “Daddy Issues,” the film follows the story of a London-based stand-up comedian that has to fly to Los Angeles and take over the family business after the sudden death of her estranged father. And though the idea of a comedian taking over a legit business when she’s way too young and ill-prepared is obvious comedy gold, it’s the added layer of family drama that makes “Daddy Issues” intriguing. Sure, we all want to see the hijinks of our lead as she struggles to gain credibility of her colleagues, but it’s the fact that Henri is an emotional mess that has to not only come to terms with her own relationship with her now-dead father but also navigate the minefield that is your 20s that is what will keep audiences engaged.
The film stars Kimberley Datnow as Henri. Datnow is also a producer on the film. She’s joined in the cast by Tanner Rittenhouse, Alice Carroll Johnson, and Francis Lloyd Corby. “Daddy Issues” is written and directed by Laura Holliday. The comedy marks the filmmaker’s feature debut after helming episodes of TV series and shorts.
“Daddy Issues” premieres on VOD on June 23.
