Got a Tip?

Damon Lindelof Is Reportedly Writing A ‘Star Wars’ Film

As we prepare for the highly-anticipated release of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” on Disney+ in May, it’s clear Lucasfilm has fully embraced “Star Wars” on your TV screen. But what about the movies? It seemed like Patty Jenkins was going to have her “Rogue Squadron” film coming next year, but that got shelved. There have been rumblings about Kevin Feige working on a film, Taika Waititi supposedly doing something, and others as well. Now, it appears Damon Lindelof might be taking his shot at a big screen “Star Wars” adventure.

According to a report from The Ankler, it appears Damon Lindelof is developing a “Star Wars” film for Lucasfilm. It’s unclear if he’s working with another writer, if there’s a director attached, or how far along the process is, but the report claims that the “Watchmen”/“Lost” mastermind is venturing into a galaxy far, far away.

If true, this isn’t a completely shocking story. Lindelof seems to fit the bill of the type of creator that Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm like to work with. Hell, they produced two films with Lindelof’s friend and “Lost” cohort, J.J. Abrams. And though Lindelof has a spotty track record in big-budget IP productions (“Star Trek,” “Prometheus,” “Tomorrowland”), his most recent effort on “Watchmen” earned rave reviews and awards, with fans eating it up. So, maybe the very opinionated “Star Wars” fandom is ready to embrace the writer?

That said, we really don’t know what this all means. If Lindelof is working on a “Star Wars” film, how does it fit in Lucasfilm’s grand plan? Does Lucasfilm actually have a grand plan? Is this just part of the studio trying to get a bunch of “Star Wars” projects developing so it can decide which direction to go in? As we said above, the questions outweigh the answers.

But hey, it looks like another “Star Wars” film is in the works. So… yay?
