We have to admit, we weren’t particularly sold on the concept of David Koepp’s “Premium Rush” when it was acquired and fast-tracked by Sony last fall. The chase film is about a twenty-something bike messenger who picks up an envelope at Columbia University, and then is subsequently chased by a dirty cop who wants what’s in the envelope. Sounds pretty low grade right? Well apparently the film is being prepped as a big budget action film complete with William Friedkin-esque chase sequences, and frankly, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the lead, it could just be him riding a bike around delivering newspapers and we’d probably still watch it.
Well, with production gearing up for next month in New York City, the cast is beginning to take shape and Levitt now has a female lead in Dania Ramirez. The actress, perhaps best known for her role on “Heroes,” has appeared in a good handful of features but this will easily be her biggest role to date.
David Koepp wrote the film with Jonathan Kamp and will be directing as well.
