‘Death Stranding’: Michael Sarnoski To Write & Direct A24’s Film Adaptation Of Acclaimed Video Game

It was shocking news when A24 announced they were teaming up with the legendary video game creator Hideo Kojima (“Metal Gear Solid”) and his company Kojima Productions for a feature film adaptation of their wildly popular and inventive post-apocalypse delivery man game, “Death Stranding.” The pic has now landed quite the filmmaker to sit in the director’s chair.

Today, A24 announced that “Pig” and “A Quiet Place: Day One” director Michael Sarnoski has been hired for “Death Stranding” to both write and direct the genre epic.

The video game has one of the more interesting group of actors such as Norman Reedus (“Ballerina”), Lea Seydoux (“No Time To Die”), Mads Mikkelsen (“Another Round”), and Margaret Qualley (“The Substance”), along with cameos from directors Guillermo del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn. All could end up showing up in the feature film incarnation, which gives us less of a mystery of who could fill out the call sheet.

An official synopsis for the game via Kojima Productions reads:

Challenged to navigate a fractured world torn asunder by cataclysm, players take on the role of “Sam Porter,” entrusted with the crucial task of reuniting a splintered America, rekindling hope, and forging connections among the remnants of humanity.

If you’re not aware, a second game, “Death Stranding II: On The Beach,” is coming out this June that features Elle Fanning (“Predator: Badlands”) among the new cast of actors and could easily become material for a follow-up film if A24 decides to turn this into a franchise.

What is less known is the fate of Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid” movie at Sony Pictures after the involvement of director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (“Kong: Skull Island”) and star Oscar Isaac (hired to play the iconic military sneaker, Snake) is now questionable after a lack of updates.
