'Daredevil': A Marvel/Disney+ Series From 'Covert Affairs' Creators Is In The Works

The man without fear is coming to Disney+. Perhaps to no one’s surprise— given their volume output and the fact the character was recently introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universal—a new Marvel “Daredevil” series is in the works at Disney+. Variety reports Matt Corman and Chris Ord are attached to write and executive produce.

Corman and Ord most co-created the USA Network series “Covert Affairs” starring Piper Perabo and Christopher Gorham, but no other details are available. The duo most recently worked as executive producers and co-showrunners on the NBC drama shows “The Enemy Within” and “The Brave” as well as The CW series “Containment.”

Given that Charlie Cox’s lawyer character Matt Murdock—the same actor that played the characters in the Netflix version produced by the old Marvel TV regime— was recently introduced in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” the news sounds like more of an inevitable formality more than a big shock. While there had been talk that Marvel wanted to separate itself from the Netflix series that came before it, fan-favorite clamoring for recasting Cox as Murdoch and Daredevil again was heard loud and clear by Marvel (and Marvel/Netflix actors Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter— who played Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, respectively—were just yesterday seemingly teasing something on Instagram, potentially related to Marvel, so fans will be hoping for more good news).

The show, beloved by its fans, was also able to recast Vincent D’Onforio as Kingpin, and his crime world character was recently introduced into the MCU in the “Hawkeye” limited series. Marvel’s “Echo” is another character first seen in “Hawkeye” began production this week and rumors suggest Kingpin and Murdoch will meet again in that series first.

Though one of the more likely series to feature Daredevil first, or at least Matt Murdoch is the upcoming “She-Hulk: Attorney By Law” series coming in April which is, as its title suggests, set within the world of legal eagles like its lead Jennifer Walters. Cox has already been rumored to appear in that series, and it would make a lot of sense if he popped up, at least in passing.

No word on when “Daredevil” will air, but the rumor mill is convinced the series will shoot before the end of the year. Let’s wait and see what happens.
