'Daredevil: Born Again': Michael Gandolfini Joins Upcoming Disney+ Series With Charlie Cox & Vincent D'Onofrio

Daredevil: Born Again” may not hit Disney+ until 2024, but for fans of the original Marvel Netflix series, it can’t come soon enough. Now there’s another reason to anticipate the show. Deadline reports that Michael Gandolfini joins the upcoming series in a major role, which should set Marvel comics fans on the hunt for who the actor plays.

According to Deadline, it’s possible that Gandolfini “plays an ambitious guy from Staten Island referred to as Liam.” Not super helpful info there. But given that Vincent D’Onofrio returns in the series as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, a safe bet may be that Gandolfini plays Richard Fisk in “Born Again.” Known in the comics as The Rose or The Schemer in the “Daredevil” comics, Richard is Kingpin’s son and often dons a rose-colored mask to carry out his dirty work. But that’s all speculation at this point.

“Born Again” sees Charlie Cox reprise his role as Matt Murdock, an attorney by day and crimefighter by night, from the original Netflix series. Cox also cameos as Murdock in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and the Disney+ series “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law.” The new series will be eighteen episodes long, making it the longest Marvel series so far. It’s also the twenty-sixth MCU TV series and the ninth installment in the MCU’s Phase 5, which begins next February with “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania.”

Gandolfini’s recent work includes the Paramount+ limited series “The Offer” and the Apple film “Cherry.” He also stars in the upcoming Apple TV+ anthology series “Extrapolations.” Other forthcoming roles for Gandolfini include Susanna Fogel‘s “Cat Person,” Ari Aster‘s much-anticipated “Disappointment Blvd.,” and Cori Finley‘s “Landscape With Invisible Hand.”
