The Jim Henson Company has finally found a way to revive “The Dark Crystal.” For years, the company has been trying to figure out how to follow up their 1982 cult classic film, and while there was a feature film sequel in development at one time, with Genndy Tartakovsky and the Spierig brothers attached to direct at various points, nothing managed to get made. However, the studio has found a solution: they’re making a prequel, and they’re going to team up with Netflix.
Instead of a film, “The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance” will be a prequel series, running ten episodes long, and have Louis Leterrier (“Now You See Me,” “The Incredible Hulk“) executive producing and directing. Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (“Life in a Year“), and Javier Grillo-Marxuach (“Lost,” “The 100“) are penning the show that returns to the world of Thra, and sees three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, and set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.
Production on “The Dark Crystal: Age Of Resistance” will kick off this fall, so look for it to hit Netflix sometime in 2018. For now, here’s a teaser of what’s to come.
