‘Das Boot’ Trailer: Hulu’s Upcoming Sequel Series To The Classic 1981 Film Stars Lizzy Caplan & Vicky Krieps

If you’re a fan of international cinema, particularly that of Germany, then you’re no doubt familiar with the 1981 classic film, “Das Boot.” The Wolfgang Petersen-directed feature about the men aboard to German U-boat during World War II went on to receive six Academy Award nominations (the most ever for a German film) and is regarded as one of the best German films of all time. So, you have to imagine all that added some extra pressure for the folks behind Hulu’s upcoming sequel series, also titled “Das Boot.”

As seen in the new trailer for the series, Hulu’s “Das Boot” takes place immediately after the film (and the novel of the same name) and not only focuses on the German side of the equation, but also on the French resistance and the Allies. And while there’s plenty of German DNA in the series, “Das Boot” has a healthy amount of English-speaking actors and actresses to help round out things.

The series stars Vicky Krieps, Tom Wlaschiha, August Wittgenstein, Lizzy Caplan, Rick Okan, Pit Bukowski, Philip Birnstiel, and Julius Feldmeier. The series is directed by Austrian filmmaker Andreas Prochaska, who is probably best known for his film “The Dark Valley.”

Hulu’s “Das Boot” is set to hit the streaming service on June 17.

Here’s the synopsis:

During the Autumn of 1942, in occupied France, U-612 is now ready for its maiden voyage, preparing to head into the increasingly brutal warfare with its young crewmen, including the new captain, Klaus Hoffmann. As the 40 young men take on their first mission, they struggle with the cramped and claustrophobic conditions of life underwater. Their personalities are pushed to the limit as tensions rise and loyalties begin to shatter.
