Jessica Chastain's Female Spy Film '355' Loses Marion Cotillard But Gains Sebastian Stan & Edgar Ramirez

Can you replace Marion Cotillard with Sebastian Stan and Edgar Ramirez? That’s the question that film fans will have to answer when they watch the upcoming female-led spy film, “355.”

According to THR, “355” has gained the talents of Stan and Ramirez, but has lost Cotillard, as the film readies itself for production to begin in July. The film, which stars Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penelope Cruz, and Fan Bingbing, follows a group of female spies as they band together to stop a catastrophic event that will send the world into chaos. The group was to feature Cotillard, who was announced with the cast at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, but the report says the actress dropped out for “personal reasons.”

Last year, the cast of “355” was threatened to change when Fan Bingbing had an issue with the Chinese government over tax evasion and went missing for months. However, that apparently all got worked out and the actress was able to rejoin her co-stars in time for the production this summer.

“355” is written and directed by Simon Kinberg, who is scheduled to make his directorial debut in the next few weeks with Fox’s “Dark Phoenix.” That film also stars his “355” leading lady, Chastain.

Even though they may not be able to replace Cotillard, Stan and Ramirez are quality actors that have done their fair share of action films in the past. Stan is probably best known for his role as Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ramirez was recently seen in the action film “Point Break,” but he’d probably like most people to think of him more for his serious dramatic work, in projects like “American Crime Story” and “Carlos.”
