The Snyder Cut is real and hitting HBO Max sometime in 2021. And because fans are feeling like superheroes themselves, it appears that the same vocal outpouring of support that forced Warner Bros. to release Zack Snyder’s Director’s Cut of “Justice League” is now being aimed at David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad.”
With #ReleaseTheAyerCut trending after the “Justice League” announcement, people have been bombarding Warner Bros. and AT&T (the studio’s parent company) with requests for David Ayer’s original cut of “Suicide Squad” (which was scrapped in favor of the much-maligned theatrical release) to have a similar release on HBO Max. And on Twitter, one such request was met with a reply from AT&T’s main account, simply stating, “Anything is possible. All it takes is a little magic,” accompanied by a gif from “Suicide Squad.”
This comes after David Ayer’s various tweets about his desire to release his original vision of “Suicide Squad.” Immediately after the “Justice League” announcement, Ayer posted cryptic tweets about “Suicide Squad,” teasing fans about the possibility of his version getting released too. Though he’s clearly interested in releasing his cut of the film, Ayer did tweet a response to a fan asking what it would take for “David Ayer’s Suicide Squad” to arrive on HBO Max.
“It is simply not my call or my IP. I love WB – it’s always been my ‘home studio’ I fully respect and support the incredible path the DCU is taking under their stewardship. My cut of Suicide Squad may always be just a rumor. And that’s just fine,” he replied.
As opposed to the Snyder Cut that is reportedly going to cost WB between $20 million and $30 million to complete, including extensive VFX work and potentially more dialogue for the cast, Ayer’s “Suicide Squad” Director’s Cut would seemingly be ready to go much faster, as the filmmaker already made the film and it was the editing that drastically changed the film. Since the film was released, though a financial hit, “Suicide Squad” has been criticized heavily for its editing choices, among other reasons, and Ayer has been leading the charge informing people about his original ideas for various characters and storylines.

So, it wouldn’t be surprising at all to hear that “David Ayer’s Suicide Squad” will be arriving at some point.
