David Fincher Confirms That 'Mindhunter' Season 2 Will Hit Netflix On August 16

The general public seems obsessed with true crime and serial killers. Whether it’s streaming series or films about Jeffrey Dahmer or podcasts about any number of psychopaths, people just love learning about the worst humanity has to offer. And it would seem that filmmaker David Fincher is one of those people, as well.

With projects like “Seven,” “Zodiac,” and most recently, “Mindhunter,” Fincher has not only created multiple projects about serial killers, but three of the best examples ever created. And for fans of the latter project, you’ll be happy to know that Netflix is bringing the series back in just over a month.

While appearing on the Treatment podcast, Fincher talked about “Mindhunter” at length. He spoke about how the series is a true “American” story, considering how it focuses on narcissism, which is a key psychopathic trait. However, the filmmaker didn’t talk just about the behind-the-scenes aspect of “Mindhunter.” He also revealed that Netflix will drop the long-awaited new season on August 16.

And to further back up his claim, Netflix went ahead and tweeted the news, saying, “Mindhunter S2 is launching August 16 (there wasn’t really a “funny”, marketing-friendly way to announce that so there you go).”

This isn’t the first time we heard August as a date. Back in May, producer Charlize Theron promised as much. However, it’s nice to have an exact date to mark on the ol’ calendar.

The second season of “Mindhunter” is a long time coming. Delayed for a while, the season is the follow up to the acclaimed first batch of episodes that debuted back in October 2017. This new group of eps is said to focus on the Atlanta child murders of the late-‘70s and early-‘80s. Stars Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Torv will all return.
