'Deadpool' Creator "Mourns The Loss" Of Donald Glover Animated Series

There are enthusiastic Deadpool fans, and then there’s Rob Liefeld. Sure, the comic book artist and writer created the character back in the ‘90s, but honestly, there’s no bigger fan of the character alive today. Every time you see an interview with Liefeld, he just beams with joy and excitement about the Merc with a Mouth. So, while it’s not surprising, it’s great to hear that one of the men with insider’s knowledge about the failed “Deadpool” animated TV series was just as sad about its cancelation as everyone else.

In an interview with Variety, the creator was talking about his creation, as he’s wont to do, and was asked what his thoughts were about the “leaked” “Deadpool” TV script from series creator Donald Glover. As you might know, Glover, and his brother Stephen, was hired to create the animated series before it’s eventual cancelation. In response to the news of the show’s demise, Glover took to Twitter to release a script that was equal parts “Deadpool” plus a healthy dose of Glover’s own catharsis for the sudden cancelation.

“I can talk about this now,” Liefeld said. “I thought the whole thing was brilliant. And I really can’t say anything more than that or I’ll get into all sorts of trouble from every side.”

“But I mean, I mourn the loss of that entire project. Donald is a genius, and I’ll always wonder how that would have worked out. But Marvel says: ‘Rob, good things are coming.’ And good things have always come, so I’m gonna believe them and hang on for dear life,” he continued.

Sadly, it doesn’t appear like we’ll ever get the Glover brothers’ version of “Deadpool.” However, it does sound like there are “good things” on the way, whatever that means. Hopefully, FX has learned that there’s an audience for a “Deadpool” TV series since both films have been huge successes and will give it another shot.

Until then, let’s just let Liefeld’s enthusiasm wash over us and bring a little joy into our lives on this Wednesday.
