Dev Patel To Star In Chippendales Strip Club Crime Drama From ‘I, Tonya’ Director

After breaking out in 2008 thanks to his lead role in the Oscar-winning film, “Slumdog Millionaire,” Dev Patel has continued to be one of the most interesting actors working today. And it appears that he’s ready to take on one of his most unique roles yet, as a strip club owner and creator of the Chippendale’s male exotic dancers in a new crime drama.

According to Deadline, Patel is attached to star in the untitled crime drama about the creation of the Chippendales strip club and the murder-suicide that was linked to it back in the ‘80s. The film is said to be directed by Craig Gillespie and will star Patel as Steve Banerjee, an Indian immigrant that finds that he is onto a big idea when he turns his nightclub into a male strip club called Chippendales. He then teams up with Paul Snider, who helps him refine his idea and make it a multi-million-dollar business. Unfortunately, Snider would later go on to murder his then-girlfriend and kill himself and Banjeree would later find himself linked to other violent crimes.

As mentioned, Patel broke out in a big way thanks to “Slumdog Millionaire,” but over the past decade, he has continued to prove he’s incredibly talented. He’s appeared in features such as “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,” “Lion,” “Chappie,” and “Hotel Mumbai.” Most recently, he starred in the just-released comedy film, “The Personal History of David Copperfield.” Patel is also set to star in the delayed A24 fantasy film, “The Green Knight.”

Gillespie is probably best known for his work in the Oscar-nominated film, “I, Tonya,” which also dealt with a bit of ridiculous, real-life violence. He’s also just wrapping up work on the upcoming Disney live-action film, “Cruella,” which stars Emma Stone.

No release date has been set for the Chippendales film.
