According to Deadline, DuVernay is set to direct a film adaptation of Pulitzer Prize winner Isabel Wilkerson’s bestselling book, “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents,” for Netflix. The film is expected to follow the acclaimed book and tell the story of the unwritten caste system that has shaped America over the decades and has contributed to the division between the citizens. “Caste” marks the first narrative feature film that DuVernay will tackle for Netflix, after already having a very successful relationship with the streaming service on projects such as “13th” and the recently released miniseries, “When They See Us.”

In addition to those projects for Netflix, DuVernay is no stranger to tackling social issues in feature films, as she proved with her breakout feature, “Selma,” which recently made headlines when it was released for free after the death of George Floyd and the rise of the Black Lives Matter protests.

Of course, “Caste” is far from the only project that DuVernay has cooking right now. She’s attached to a documentary on the late rapper, Nipsey Hussle. She also is said to be working on a TV series inspired by the Twitter account, “One Perfect Shot.” DuVernay is also set to produce and direct the pilot episode of the upcoming HBO series, “DMZ.” And at some point, she might actually get around to making that long-awaited DC superhero film, “The New Gods.”
